About Sparky

Sparky is now looking for his forever home. He arrived with us recently due to his owner’s change of circumstances.

He is a 7-month-old fox red Labrador.

Here is his foster-mum’s write-up…

“Sparky is a really good boy with a lovely, affectionate nature. His first day was a little energetic and chaotic, which was completely understandable as he was settling into a new environment and hadn’t had enough time to burn off his energy. However, once he became more comfortable, he settled down beautifully and showed us what a lovely boy he really is.

He now spends quite a bit of the day sleeping and will even take himself off to his crate when he wants some peace and quiet. Today, I decided to test him by leaving him out of his crate for two hours while I was out, and he was an absolute angel!

Sparky loves human attention just as much as he loves playing with other dogs. He is incredibly affectionate and generous with his kisses, giving them freely to both humans and his four-legged friends. He has a lovely temperament and doesn’t seem fazed by much. He has also been non-reactive in the situations we’ve seen, including around food.

On walks, Sparky has a really good recall and walks nicely on the lead, although he may need the occasional reminder not to pull when he gets excited. He also needs some reinforcement not to jump up when greeting people or taking a snack, as he can get a little overexcited because he loves attention so much!

He already knows his basic commands, including sit and paw, and he is very food-motivated, which makes him a pleasure to train.

At night, he sleeps happily in his crate, while during the day, he loves nothing more than a comfortable sofa for a nap. 💤

One thing worth considering is a slow feeder, as he is very enthusiastic about his food!

Overall, Sparky is a sweet, loving and clever boy who enjoys companionship, playtime and plenty of affection. Once he has had a little time to settle in and his energy needs are met, he really does shine. With a little consistency around his excitement and greetings, he has all the potential to continue being an absolute star. He has been a pleasure to look after, and his affectionate personality makes him very easy to fall in love with”.

Sparky is fully vaccinated and health checked. He is too young to be neutered yet so will be on a neuter contract, meaning he will be castrated by the rescue when he’s old enough for this to be done. For this reason, he will need to stay local to the rescue so we can pay for this to be done at our contracted vets (thanks to their discounted rescue neuter rates).

Sparky can be adopted in areas close to Derby, Nottingham, Burton-on-Trent, Chesterfield/Alfreton, Newark and Stoke-on-Trent.

We are looking for an active home for him, with a similar-sized, neutered doggy companion.
