About Fergus

OTHER DOGS: Can be reactive if other dogs get too close..

CATS: Untested, may chase.

LIVESTOCK: Untested

A little bit about Fergus : Fergus is a gentle and laidback dog with occasional moments of playfulness through the day. He likes to be around you, happy to sleep next to you on the sofa and just relax. He’s very settled in the house. Fergus loves food and treats, he’s very food driven! Fergus loves to play fetch, he will put the ball at your feet and do an excited jump back and forth to initiate play.

More about Fergus : Fergus is fully house trained. He doesn’t like going to the toilet in the garden much but will go multiple times on a walk. Fergus is fine to be left alone for short periods of time. He’s very calm in the house and could build up to longer periods of time alone with time. If there is only 1 person in the house, he does tend to make sure he’s in the same room as you. He is a bit of a counter surfer so it’s worth moving things out of reach! Fergus loves to sleep next to you on the bed and on the sofa during the day. He hasn’t touched his basket brought with him from home once. He is exceptional on a lead. He doesn’t pull at all and will stop at crossings when told. He has worn a harness in foster, but he would happily walk with the lead clipped to his collar as well. His recall needs a little bit of work. He will respond to his name but can get a little distracted by his surroundings.

Fergus overall is a very calm dog. He enjoys lying by your side most of the day and likes to chill in the house. He will let you know when he wants to play.

Fergus has been untested with cats or other animals but pays no attention to birds on a walk. Fergus will happily walk past children without issue, but he seemed wary of them in a home setting. He retreated to a corner and would not accept treats from them or any pats and cuddles. He showed no signs of aggression towards them.

Visiting the vet : Fergus has had his routine health check and is fit and well. His vaccinations are up to date. He was well behaved in the veterinary surgery.

Behavioural issues : Fergus has shown reactivity to other dogs on walks. He will often growl or try to lunge at them. He has been moved in to the side and will be rewarded with a treat when passing dogs nicely. He is very food driven. He is showing some improvement with this but will require continued work in his forever home. His fosterer is working with our behaviourist on this issue.

Home needs : Fergus would like a calm but reasonably active home, with someone around most of the time. A secure garden for pottering and training in would be ideal. Fergus would be better suited as an only dog, with no young children in the home. Overall, he is a very low energy dog. Whilst he loves to be on a walk, he doesn’t ask for one and is happy being chilled out at home. In terms of ongoing training, it would just be focusing on recall and managing his reactivity to other dogs.

Ongoing support: Springer Rescue for Scotland will be available for any support with your new dog and can offer behavioural support in case of any problems that may arise on adopting a dog .

Please do not express interest in Fergus if you are going on holiday in the next 8 weeks. We are only able to rehome dogs within Scotland.
