About Milo
Brief Summary of Personality: Introducing the delightful Milo, an 11-month-old Cavapoo who weighs just 6kg and certainly has the cute factor! ❤️ This little cutie is guaranteed to steal your heart. Milo is a friendly, playful boy who loves nothing more than running and playing with other dogs. At home, he has great fun with his ball, often throwing it into the air himself before chasing after it. Milo can be a little anxious when meeting new people, particularly men, and needs time to build trust and feel comfortable. Once he gets to know you, his loving personality really shines through, and he loves nothing more than a cuddle on your knee.
Reasons for Relinquishment: Milo was not coping living in a busy, noisy household with young children.
Energy Requirements: Milo loves being off lead, running around and having fun, while taking plenty of time to stop and enjoy a good sniff. He currently enjoys a one-hour walk in the morning, followed by a 30–40 minute walk in the early evening.
Previous and Current Training: Milo is a clever, obedient little boy with excellent recall. He can sit and wait patiently for his meals, and is a lovely boy to train. It is thought that Milo had limited exposure to different environments previously, so he can be nervous when out and about. He will need slow, gentle introductions to new places, with the same walking route used initially to help build his confidence. Milo can pull on the lead when he feels anxious or overwhelmed, but once he is allowed off lead, he relaxes and is a very happy little boy. When strangers come into the home, Milo may bark for a minute or so, but he soon settles. There is no aggression at all; he is simply anxious initially and needs a little time to feel comfortable.
Meeting New People: Milo can be nervous when meeting people and needs slow, gentle introductions, with patience, understanding and no sudden movements. Taking the time to build his trust is worth its weight in gold. Once Milo feels safe and trusts you, he becomes your best friend for life, and you will become his safe place.
Dog/ Cat Test: Milo loves being around other dogs and would benefit from living with a friendly, playful and confident dog or dogs. Having a canine companion will also help him build his confidence when he is nervous in new environments and when meeting people.
Home Alone: Milo is happy to be left home alone and is very settled. He loves nothing more than snuggling up on the settee or curling up in his cosy bed.
Children: Milo would not be comfortable living with or regularly visiting young children, as they make him very anxious. Older children visiting the home occasionally could be fine, provided they are calm, respectful and understand that Milo needs slow, quiet and gentle introductions.
Vet Visits: Milo can be very anxious initially at the vets, so he waits outside until he is called in, helping to reduce the stress of being around unfamiliar people. Once inside, with slow and calm introductions, he copes well.
Medical Issues: Milo is thought to have a possible inflammatory bowel condition, although his stools are currently normal. Milo was not neutered while in foster due to his nervousness and will therefore be rehomed with a neutering contract.
Travelling: Milo travels very well in the car, either in his travel crate or secured with a harness on the rear seat.
Handling/Grooming: Milo is nervous about being groomed. When he arrived in foster, his coat was very matted and sore, so he needed sedation from the vets to allow him to be groomed safely, which worked very well. He is now slowly becoming more comfortable with being brushed and introduced to the grooming clippers.
Food: Recently Milo has changed his diet to eating home cooked food, rather than the tinned food he was previously eating. It is hoped this will help with his loose stools and he seems to be tolerating it very well. His new family will need to understand Milo’s food intolerances and be able to maintain a diet that suits his sensitive tummy. He also loves having his antler and cow horn to chew on.
Sleeping: Milo sleeps all night downstairs curled up on the settee or in his cosy bed. Milo has never had an accident in the home and is a clean little boy.
Behavioural issues: Milo can be nervous around strangers and, when feeling fearful, has very occasionally given a small air snap. This is fear-based rather than aggression, and with calm reassurance he quickly settles again. The fosterer’s dogs are very understanding and do not react, recognising that Milo is simply feeling unsure.
Bite History: None
Home Needs: Milo needs an experienced, patient owner who understands his nervous nature and can help him continue to build his confidence. He has made wonderful progress in foster and has grown in confidence, showing just how much love he has to give. Milo would love to live with a friendly, playful dog or dogs who can help him feel more secure and continue to build his confidence. He would struggle in a noisy or busy household and needs a calm, quiet and loving home where he has plenty of time to relax and rest during the day. An understanding of Milo’s dietary needs is essential, and his new family will need to continue working with his diet to ensure he is eating food that suits his sensitive tummy.
