🐾 Meet Chewie – A Big Boy with an Even Bigger Heart! 🖤
Meet Chewie, our gorgeous five-year-old Russian Black Terrier × Hungarian Kuvasz, weighing in at an impressive 50kg! And underneath all that magnificent black fluff is one very lovely boy with an enormous amount of love to give. ❤️
Chewie hasn't had the easiest start in life. Following the passing of his owner, he came into our care after spending his entire life confined to a kitchen, without walks, adventures or even a bed of his own. His collar had to be removed with pliers, and he'd never experienced something as simple as a bath.
But now, at five years old, Chewie's world is finally opening up, and we can't wait to see what life has in store for him!
💛 His Personality
Chewie is a beautiful, kind-hearted boy who has been an absolute joy to have with us. He can be a little unsure when meeting new people, but give him a chance to get to know you and you'll discover a wonderfully affectionate, cuddly companion who absolutely loves a bit of fuss.
One of his sweetest habits is gently placing his enormous paw on your lap when he'd like some attention. It's rather difficult to resist a request like that! 🐾❤️
He's also obedient, responsive and eager to please, and it's lovely to see how much he enjoys connecting with the people he trusts.
Considering how little he's experienced of normal life, Chewie has a wonderful temperament. He's discovering new things every day, and we're thoroughly enjoying getting to know this gorgeous big bear.
🐕 Walks & Other Dogs
For a boy who spent his life without proper walks, Chewie has taken to getting out and about beautifully!
He can pull a little at the beginning of a walk, but once settled, he's a lovely walking companion. Given his size, his future family will need to be physically capable of handling him safely.
Chewie has also made some lovely canine friends. He's comfortable joining group walks and has even enjoyed off-lead time with dogs he gets along with.
As a large male dog, he can occasionally attract unwanted attention from other dogs, so thoughtful introductions are important.
We're still getting to know Chewie and assessing whether he'd be happiest as an only dog or could share his home with a suitable canine companion. For now, we're delighted with the positive interactions we've seen.
🌿 His Ideal Home
More than anything, we want Chewie to experience what being a truly loved family dog feels like. After spending five years confined to a kitchen, he deserves a home where he's included in everyday life, can wander comfortably around the living spaces and has a lovely bed to call his own. And yes, we'd rather like him to be thoroughly spoiled! 🏡❤️
His ideal home would offer:
🏡 A loving family who will welcome him into everyday home life, with access to most living spaces, at least downstairs
* Adults only family preferrably.
* Experience with large dogs, ideally guardian-type breeds
* People physically capable of safely handling a dog of approximately 50kg
* A little time to get to know new people and settle comfortably into his new surroundings
* Plenty of affection, companionship, lovely walks and adventures
🐾 A cat-free home with no small furry pets
* A family who will appreciate his affectionate nature and continue giving him kind, consistent guidance
Any potential canine housemate to be considered following further assessment and careful introductions. Chewie is a cross of two traditionally protective breeds, so we'd love to find people who understand the characteristics of large guardian-type dogs.
Chewie is currently under assessment and is booked to be neutered.
