About Mia

Mia is a gorgeous seven-month-old crossbreed puppy who was found abandoned in Romania alongside her siblings. They were taken to a local shelter before Islay Dog Rescue stepped in to bring her to Scotland, where she is now searching for her forever home. Mia currently weighs 8.6kg and, as we do not expect her to grow much more, we believe she will remain a small dog.

Mia has quickly become a favourite among the volunteers and staff at the rescue. Unlike many puppies of her age, she has a calm, gentle nature. She can be a little wary of new people at first, but given a little space and patience, she will soon approach, especially if tempted with a few tasty treats such as chicken or ham.

Once Mia feels comfortable, her affectionate side begins to shine. She enjoys being stroked and is more than happy to snuggle up beside you, often rolling over for a belly rub from someone she trusts.

As Mia has never lived in a home environment, she will need time to adjust to everyday household life. Normal sights and sounds such as televisions, vacuum cleaners and general household activity may initially be unfamiliar or a little overwhelming. This is not uncommon for Romanian street dogs, and given Mia's young age and gentle temperament, we believe she will gain confidence with patient guidance, understanding and positive experiences.

Mia gets along well with other dogs and could happily live with a suitably matched resident dog following careful introductions. She has also met the rescue cat and neighbouring chickens and showed little interest in either. For this reason, we believe she could live with cats or other small household pets, provided introductions are carried out slowly and under supervision.

As we are unable to directly assess our dogs with children at the rescue, any recommendations regarding children are based on the dog's known history, observed behaviour and the characteristics they have displayed while in our care. We believe Mia could live with dog-savvy children aged eight years and over. We would ask that any children living in the prospective home attend one of the two pre-adoption visits, giving them the opportunity to meet Mia and ensuring everyone is comfortable before proceeding with the adoption.

Mia's lead training is progressing well and she enjoys her walks, taking great interest in exploring the world around her. She is curious about the sights, sounds and smells she encounters and is beginning to build confidence in new environments.

Mia is not yet house trained and it is unlikely she has travelled in a car other than during her journey to Scotland. Her adopters should be prepared to support her through these new experiences and allow her time to learn at her own pace.

Mia has never known life outside of a rescue environment, so she is looking for a patient and understanding home that will help her settle into the routines of family life. Like any young puppy, she will need ongoing positive, reward-based training and support as she continues to grow and develop. In return, we are confident that Mia will blossom into a loyal, loving and devoted companion for a very lucky family.

Small in size but full of potential, Mia is ready to begin the next chapter of her life with a family who can offer her the time, patience, guidance, and love she deserves. With the right support and a commitment to ongoing positive reinforcement training, she is sure to blossom into a wonderful companion.

She is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites and comes with a APH certificate. Her adopter will be required to sign a neutering agreement.

Mia’s adoption fee is £500, which goes directly towards helping rescue and care for other dogs just like her.

Could you be the one to give this amazing young girl her forever home she deserves?
