About Ivy

Ivy is a beautiful one-year-old crossbreed who recently came to Islay Dog Rescue after unforeseen changes in her family's circumstances. Having previously lived in a loving home, she is now looking for a forever family of her own.

Ivy is a gentle, affectionate and energetic young dog who absolutely adores attention. Like many dogs her age, she is full of enthusiasm for life and enjoys being involved in everything her people are doing. She is also incredibly cuddly and thrives on companionship.

A bright and intelligent girl, Ivy already knows several commands including sit, paw, other paw, spin and lie down. She is highly motivated by treats, making her eager to learn and a great candidate for continued training.

Ivy walks nicely on the lead and generally enjoys her outings. However, she has occasionally shown some reactivity towards dogs that come too close while she is on lead. This is an area that her adopters will need to continue working on through positive, reward-based training. Encouragingly, when attending doggy day care Ivy enjoyed playing and running around with the other dogs, happily joining in games of chase.

In her previous home, Ivy displayed resource-guarding behaviours towards the resident dog, particularly around food, toys and people. Interestingly, this behaviour was not seen when she stayed with family members who had dogs, nor whilst attending doggy day care. This suggests that the behaviour may be linked to her home environment and the resources she values most. To give Ivy the very best chance of success, we feel she would be happiest as the only dog in the home.

Ivy previously lived with young children and was always gentle with them. However, due to her excitable nature, tendency to jump up and history of resource guarding, we believe she would be best suited to a home with no children or dog-savvy children aged eight years and over who can understand and respect her boundaries while helping with her ongoing training.

At the rescue, Ivy has met the resident cat and showed very little interest. She did not attempt to chase and was simply curious when the cat moved away. For this reason, we feel she could potentially live alongside a confident, dog-savvy cat, provided introductions are carried out carefully and appropriate boundaries are maintained.

When meeting new people, Ivy can initially be a little nervous and cautious. However, with patience and the opportunity to approach at her own pace, she quickly relaxes and reveals her fun-loving, affectionate personality.

Like most young dogs, Ivy can still be a little mischievous and enjoys chewing anything she thinks might make a good toy. Keeping temptation out of reach and providing plenty of suitable chew items will help set her up for success in her new home.

She is crate trained and happily sleeps in her crate overnight. In fact, when bedtime arrives, Ivy will take herself off to her crate and wait patiently for her bedtime treat.

Ivy is looking for a committed family who will continue her training using positive reinforcement methods and help her build confidence. Experience of resource guarding and lead reactivity would be an advantage, but above all she needs a home that will provide understanding, consistency and love. In return, Ivy will reward her new family with endless affection, loyalty, fun and companionship.

She is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites and assessed. She will come with a neutering agreement.

Her adoption fee is £400, helping Islay Rescue continue their vital work caring for dogs in need.

Could you be the one to give this wonderful young girl the second chance she deserves?
