About Chico

Chico is a stunning 4 ‑year‑old Black & White Greyhound, weighing 32 kg. He is searching for a loving home after retiring from the demanding world of racing. Still young and full of potential, he’s ready to trade the track for a warm bed, kind people, and a peaceful family life.

Chico is a happy, friendly, and affectionate boy with a wonderfully goofy nature. He loves the company of people and greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and a warm, gentle enthusiasm. Playtime is one of his favourite things — he enjoys games with his people, other dogs, and loves chasing his ball and toys though he prefers his human to come and pick them up for him.

Like many ex‑racers, Chico has likely never lived in a home environment. His level of house training is currently unknown, so he’ll need patience, understanding, and guidance as he learns the rhythms of family life.

Chico is lead trained, though he does still pull at times, with further training in this area he will become the perfect gentleman to accompany his people on daily outings. He enjoys play time and a chase with his fellow doggy friends in our secure arena. Once the excitement is over, he’s just as happy to settle down and snooze in a comfortable spot — classic Greyhound style.

Because of his racing background, Chico cannot live with cats, small dogs, or other small animals, as he is likely to chase them. However, he could happily share his home with one or more medium‑to‑large dogs, given careful introductions.

As we are unable to directly assess our dogs with children at the rescue, any recommendations regarding children are based on the dog's known history, observed behaviour, and the characteristics they have displayed while in our care.

For Chico, we believe he could live with dog-savvy children aged 12 years and over. We would ask that any children who live in the prospective home attend one of the two pre-adoption visits, giving them the opportunity to meet Mia and ensuring everyone is comfortable before proceeding with the adoption

He has travelled regularly in cars and vans during his racing career and is comfortable with vehicle travel.

Chico needs a patient, loving family who can help him adjust to home life at his own pace. He would thrive with adopters who enjoy gentle walks, playtime, and cosy evenings. With the right support, Chico has all the potential to blossom into a loyal and devoted companion.

He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites, assessed and neutered.

His adoption fee is £250, helping Islay Rescue continue their vital work caring for dogs in need.

After spending his early life in the racing world, Chico now deserves to learn what a warm, comfortable home truly feels like. Could you give him the soft bed, love, and security he needs to begin the next chapter of his life?
