SAY HELLO TO ZENA

Zena has been with us at Watford Gap since May, and during that time we’ve learned that she’s a gentle, cautious girl who is still finding her confidence in the wider world. She’s not naturally keen on going for walks or spending time outdoors, and she often needs encouragement to step outside. Once she’s done her business she’s quick to head back indoors, but she’s clean and has never had accidents in her space - she tries very hard to get things right.

In a home environment, Zena prefers a quiet corner as her safe zone and is perfectly content there. She’ll occasionally get up to see what’s happening, but she prefers to keep a little distance and take her time with people. She’s observant, gentle and polite, but still working out how to relax around humans.

Despite her worries, Zena has shown she can rise to new situations with the right support. On a recent visit to a Memory Café in Lichfield, she walked well from the car, wasn’t fazed when a small dog barked and headed straight up the stairs. Although nervous, she allowed people to stroke her while leaning in for reassurance. It was lovely for volunteers to see her enjoying positive interactions - especially with another greyhound nearby, which seemed to help her confidence.

Zena eats very well and always finishes her bowl. Because she’s so wary, she hasn’t been taken out and about much yet, but she will jump into the boot herself and travels well once settled - a really positive sign for her future confidence building.

She’s a sweet girl with lots of potential, but she will need a calm, patient home that understands she’s not ready to enjoy affection or busy environments just yet. With routine, reassurance and the freedom to decompress at her own pace, Zena will gradually learn that the world isn’t so scary.
