About Tripp

Tripp came to Foal Farm after he was found as a stray, he was not microchipped, and was underweight with a very dirty coat. Our initial thoughts were perhaps he is a dog who has lived outside. Our vet has estimated him to be around 5 years old.

Despite the lack of history we have on Tripp, he has been a very friendly boy from the moment he arrived. He greets everyone happily and has been a real pleasure to care for. Tripp has now had a bath and trim, he particularly enjoyed being brushed. He is also enjoying 3 meals a day to help him gain weight and he has been neutered.

We suspect that Tripp is not used to being walked on a lead as he can be a handful when out and about. He has a very strong prey drive and has no interest in focusing on his handler who is at the end of the lead. He needs ongoing training with lead work, which will be no easy task, as he is a strong willed Terrier. Tripp does settle well in his kennel and he assessed well too. He is an affectionate boy and is very clever, he just needs to be in a calm environment to help him focus and learn, which is something he has possibly never done before.

Tripp can be intense around other dogs and doesn’t seem to have many manners when it comes to saying hello to another dog. However, with a calm and controlled greeting he can settle down. We would consider rehoming him with another dog pending introductions at Foal, we appreciate the kennel environment is stressful and this will be impacting his behaviour.

We are seeking an older family home for Tripp and it would be an added bonus if adopters have Terrier experience and understand what drive they can have. He is a lovely boy with a lot of potential but does need owners who are active and are willing to commit to ongoing training. Terrier’s are not for the faint hearted but bring a lot of love, fun and joy!
