About Milo

🐾 MEET MILO – A LITTLE BEAGLE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN HIM 🐾

💔 Milo hasn’t had the easiest start in life, but we’re hoping that with the right person, his story can have a much happier next chapter.

Milo is a young adult Beagle who has had an incredibly difficult start to life. He spent much of his life confined to a crate, with little to no socialisation and very limited exposure to people or the outside world. He was subsequently passed on to new people who, sadly, didn’t realise just how much support and understanding he would need.

Through no fault of his own, Milo has missed out on many of the foundations every dog deserves. ❤️

As a result of his past experiences, Milo can react defensively when he feels frightened, uncomfortable or overwhelmed. He hasn’t had the opportunity to learn how to navigate many everyday situations, and he needs someone who understands that his reactions are a sign that he is struggling.

Milo isn’t a dog for a first-time owner. He needs an experienced, confident person who understands canine body language, can recognise his triggers and is prepared to approach his rehabilitation with patience, consistency and compassion.

He needs to go right back to basics, learning the skills, confidence and appropriate behaviours that sadly weren’t taught to him earlier in life. Most importantly, he needs someone who will give him the time and space to learn at his own pace.

Since arriving at our kennels, we’ve started to see some lovely improvements as he has gradually settled into his surroundings.

He’s been going out with more and more of our volunteers, and as his exposure to the outside world has increased, so has his confidence.

Here’s what one of our volunteers has to say about him:

“Milo is a super friendly little character who absolutely loves getting out for a walk and having a good sniff! He’s always keen to get out and explore his surroundings, taking in all the sights and most definitely the smells along the way.

The more he gets used to his little adventures, the more settled and responsive he’s becoming, and he’s now recognising and responding to his name, something he couldn’t do when he arrived.

He’s really coming out of his shell and showing his soft side, quickly becoming a little lovebug who enjoys lots of fuss and attention. ❤️”

And it seems Milo might just be a bit of a water baby too! He’s been discovering the joys of paddling, possibly for the very first time.

We’re looking for a very particular home for Milo, and finding the right match is much more important than finding him a home quickly.

🐾 An adult-only home – no children.

🐾 Could potentially live with other dogs, subject to successful introductions.

🐾 Could potentially live with cats.

🐾 An experienced owner who is confident and comfortable managing dogs with behavioural challenges.

🐾 Someone who can understand his body language, recognise when he is struggling and manage situations safely.

🐾 A calm, structured environment where he can settle, build confidence and learn at his own pace.

🐾 Someone committed to ongoing training

Milo will need time, patience and understanding. We won’t pretend that he will be an easy project, and prospective adopters need to be realistic about the commitment involved.

But behind Milo’s difficult behaviours is a little dog who has never really been given the opportunity to learn how to navigate the world safely.

He didn’t choose the start he had, and he shouldn’t have to spend the rest of his life paying the price for it.

Could you be the person who finally gives Milo the chance he deserves? ❤️
