About Racer

Racer is a lovely, gentle and very affectionate boy who has been through quite a lot and is now looking for a quiet, permanent home of his own.

Racer first came to Farplace as a stray from West Auckland in 2022. He was given his name by a little boy who saw him racing around and thought it suited him perfectly!

He had previously suffered from a very bad ear infection which developed into a polyp and required surgery. Thankfully, he’s doing really well now and has recovered nicely.

Racer was rehomed in October 2022, but sadly returned because he struggled with stress-related behaviours due to other cats in the home. He found a home again in August 2024, but was returned to us in May 2025 when his family suddenly developed allergies to him.

Since coming back to Farplace, Racer has had some health problems of his own. Blood tests showed that he had pancreatitis, which is now being managed very successfully with his diet. He’s doing so much better, looking great and really enjoying life again.

Despite everything he’s been through, Racer is an absolutely lovely boy. He’s calm, friendly and very happy to simply curl up beside his friends and snooze the day away. He could live happily as an only cat or potentially with another quiet, relaxed cat.

What Racer really needs now is a quiet and stable home where he can settle in at his own pace. He doesn’t cope particularly well with lots of stress or upheaval, so we’re looking for someone who can be patient, understanding and give him the time he needs to feel completely at home.

After everything Racer has been through, we really want his next home to be his forever home. He’s such a special boy and deserves the chance to settle somewhere peaceful and be loved for the rest of his life.

Please only enquire if you’re able to make a long-term commitment to Racer and are happy to give him plenty of patience and reassurance while he settles into his new home.

Racer needs an indoor-only home. A secure catio or enclosed garden would be a lovely bonus, but isn’t essential.

As with all of our cats, Racer will leave Farplace castrated, microchipped and vaccinated, with his flea and worm treatment up to date, and following a full health check.

We’ll also provide you with a full copy of his veterinary records to keep for your own records when he goes off to his new home.

Indoor-only policy Our cats are rehomed as indoor-only cats. We know this is different from how cats were traditionally kept, but we believe keeping them indoors is the safest option for both cats and wildlife. There are lots of risks associated with allowing cats to roam, including traffic, disease, theft, poisoning and conflict with neighbours. As a rescue that also cares for injured wildlife, we also feel strongly about reducing the impact domestic cats can have on local wildlife. A secure catio or enclosed garden is always a wonderful addition, but it isn’t essential. We can then arrange a home check. We are happy to consider homes up to around two hours’ travel from the rescue. Any further than this can make it difficult for us to offer the support we feel is important after adoption. We hope you understand. Farplace Animal Rescue is based in Weardale, County Durham, DL13 1LE. We don’t have a fixed adoption fee, but we do ask for a generous donation towards the ongoing care of the animals at Farplace. Please note: Farplace Animal Rescue is not open to the public.
